Yu Haiping won the title of “Self-reliance and Self-improvement Model” of Dalian University of Technology

Yu Haiping from the School of Foreign Languages Class of 2019 won the title of “Self-reliance and Self-improvement Model” at Dalian University of Technology in the 2021-2022 academic year (only 10 students limited). In the past three years, the School has created 1 Outstanding Student Model, 3 Self-reliance and self-improvement Models, 3 Excellent Learning Style Model Classes, 1 Learning Style Improvement Model Class, and 2 HIWIN Elite Scholarship winners. Now, let's take a look at the road of Yu Haiping's growth and struggle.
Yu Haiping, a female probationary member of the Communist Party of China, is a student in Class 1901 of Foreign Languages, Dalian University of Technology. As an undergraduate, she served as deputy director of the Youth Marx Project Office of the Youth League Committee, assistant to the management office of the Student Affairs Office, and commissary in charge of general affairs of the class. From the first to the last year, facing difficulties and challenging herself, she rose from average to second place in terms of academic performance, and won the Merit Student award of the university, the Outstanding League Cadre, the Outstanding League Cadre Model, as well as social work scholarships.
I. Ordinary Cultivation, Extraordinary Harvest
As an ordinary student with no talent in Russian, faced with that most difficult language and a middling position in academic performance rank, Yu re-examined professional courses and planned to make up for her shortcomings from the foundation. Since her sophomore year, she has averaged 10 hours of net learning per day. In order to improve her comprehensive ability, she also took the lead in studying Sino-Russian cultural diplomacy, participating in the rehearsal of Russian drama, and practicing both calligraphy and speech in Russian. Finally, in her junior year, with her weighted average score increased by 6 points, Yu jumped to the second highest-scoring student, achieving a breakthrough in academic performance.
II. Ordinary Posts, Extraordinary Value
In order to improve her working ability, she chose to polish herself through three student works. As the commissary in charge of general affairs of the class, she went to all classmates’ dormitories every day to check their bedtime, mental condition and dorm hygiene. During her two years in the management office of the Student Affairs Office, she witnessed the difficulty of student management during the pandemic, and carefully handled all data as much as she could. Meanwhile, she spent three years working with the “Youth University Studies” as a part of the Youth Marx Project Office. With the aim of improving the learning rate, Yu launched a schoolwide data statistics method for the first time, processing more than 2000 pieces of relevant data, and solving the feedback problem files of each second-level Youth League committee (of nearly 10G).
III. Ordinary Pay, Extraordinary Glory
President Xi once said that we should let youth bloom in the places where the Party and the people need them most. Faculties and students of the School of Foreign Languages of DUT are always closely linked to the new era. Relying on the university’s high-quality platform, Yu Haiping has been actively involved in various social practices and volunteer services. In the past three years, she has participated in winter and summer holiday social practice on four occasions and has taken a temporary position in the community on one occasion. From the enterprise to the community, from the motherland’s condition to the people's livelihood, she has measured the land of the nation with her footsteps and felt the warmth of the world with her heart. She has taken part in 29 volunteer activities with nearly 80 volunteering hours, providing free tutoring services for the children of anti-pandemic workers, homework guidance for children of disaster-stricken families in Henan province, and the introduction of China's beautiful sceneries for children in Longling, Yunnan Province. What’s more, in her junior year, during the normal closure and control of the campus, she actively responded to the call of the Party members of the School, joining in the daily nucleic-acid testing volunteer service showing her own practical actions dedicated to DUT.
Forging ahead with confidence from the beginning, students of the School of Foreign Languages will set more ambitious goals to fulfill the responsibilities and dreams of DUTers in the future. We will never stop striving for self-improvement, nor going forward without a grateful heart. We will leave a regretless youth footprint in the new era of the new journey!
