The closing ceremony of the 6th Dalian University of Technology Foreign Language Activity Month and the public performance of the English dramaShalom-Shanghai were successfully held

On the afternoon of June 23rd 2023, the closing ceremony of the 6th Foreign Language Activity Month of Dalian University of Technology and the public performance of the English dramaShalom-Shanghai were held in the concert Hall of the Student Cultural Center.
The ceremony was presented by the leaders of relevant departments at the university, including: Professor Zhang Yanjun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and vice president of the DUT; Mr. Wang Xiaoguang, deputy minister of the Student Work Department of the Party Committee; Mr. Wang Yunhe, deputy secretary of the school Youth League Committee; and Ms. Meng Linqian, deputy director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department.
On top of this, the ceremony was also attended by leading teachers of the School of Foreign Languages, including: Professor Chen Hongjun, dean of the School of Foreign Languages; Ms. Zhang Li, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages; Ms. Ding Man, vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages; and Mr. Qin Zhiqiang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages.
There were some guests participating in the event as well: Professor Sun Huizhu from Shanghai Theatre Academy and Professor Fei Chunfang from East China Normal University.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Zhang Yanjun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and vice President of Dalian University of Technology, gave speeches, highly praising the students' spirit forging ahead and working hard, and expressing his delight at the students’ progress during the Foreign Language Activity Month. At the same time, he also put forward three expectations for the students: first, to boost the growth and supremacy of the country; second, to make efforts as DUTer to contribute to Chinese-style modernization; third, to practice the concept of all-round development, classification excellence, diversity and talent, in order to create infinite possibilities.
This was followed by the most exciting award announcement. Professor Chen Hongjun, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, read out the list of winners of the Foreign Language Activity Month.
Then, Professor Zhang Yanjun, deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Dalian University of Technology, and Professor Chen Hongjun, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, jointly presented certificates to the award-winning students.
With the support of relevant leaders and the Youth League Committee of the university, as well as the active participation of all students, this wonderful language event was successfully completed.
A number of activities were carried out during the Foreign Language Month, including: English Word Contest, English Speech Contest on “The Chinese Path to Modernization”, Foreign Language Dubbing Contest on “Changes”, Foreign Language Calligraphy Contest on “Working Hard, Pursuing Dreams”, Japanese drama「アナと雪の女王」and English dramaShalom-Shanghai. These activities highlighted the efforts and enthusiasm of students, showing the infinite possibilities of DUTers.
At The closing ceremony, Li Jitao and Bai Chen, who won the first prize in the English Speech Contest “The Chinese Path to Modernization”, and Wang Yixuan, Li Jiani, Yang Mingou and Huang Ziyu, who performed well in the Foreign Language Dubbing Contest “Changes” were invited to perform in public.
The students' passionate speeches and lively dubbing won bursts of applause from the audience, which further reflected the positive and enterprising spirit of the DUT youth.
Subsequently, the English dramaShalom-Shanghai, which was prepared for several months, was performed successfully.
At last, the completion of the performance of the English dramaShalom-Shanghai officially concluded the sixth Foreign Language Activity Month of Dalian University of Technology.
This Foreign Language Activity Month has come to a conclusion, but it is not the final end. In the future, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to take the basic concept of “boosting internationalization, accelerating the first-class creation”, forging the foundation of language, telling Chinese stories, creating a foreign language atmosphere, and stimulating the vitality of youth. We will surely continue to carry out Foreign Language Activity Month, in order to build a language brand belonging to the DUT. In addition, we will also mobilize more students to feel the charm of language, experience the style of foreign languages, and improve their strengths.
