Institute for Literature and Philosophical Studies

Institute for Literature and Philosophical Studies in Dalian University of Technology is committed to the trans-disciplinary study of literature and philosophy. Literature and philosophy have always been important ways for human beings to understand ourselves. In the context of constructing “new liberal arts”, the trans-disciplinary study of literature and philosophy has become an important topic of current research, and is playing a more and more significant role in solving important theoretical and practical problems in humanities and arts.

The team members of the institute have obtained PhD either in literature or in philosophy and are all committed to the trans-disciplinary studies of literature and philosophy. Up to now, team members have successfully applied for 13 fund projects at national, ministerial and provincial levels.Six monographs on the trans-disciplinary studies of literature and philosophy, and more than forty papers in core journals of philosophy and literature in China, such asChinese Hermeneutics,Studies in Dialectics of Nature,Seeking Truth,Foreign Literature and in foreign journals, have been published.

The institute hasa provincial researchcenter for Hermeneutical Interpretation & Composition of Public Discourse. It edits two journals:Foreign Language Education & Research andLiterature & Hermeneutics. The institute has established international academic exchange and cooperation relations with University of Padua in Italy, and regularly holds a series of forums of “philosophy of literature” every year. The study of literary hermeneutics is one focus of the institute. It is at the forefront in China and is highly regarded by the academic community for its breadth and depth in the fields of Chinese hermeneutics and foreign literary theory studies.
