Introduction to TOEFL internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT®)

The TOEFL internet Based Test ®(TOEFL iBT®),managed and administered by the Education Testing Service (ETS), is the only TOEFL test program co-organized by the Ministry of Education Testing Center in cooperation with ETS. The test was introduced to China in 2006 and has been offered in more than 100 test centers. It is considered as the authoritative standard for overseas universities, colleges, organizations and institutions to measure the English ability of applicants or practitioners. The format of the test questions is designed to simulate the university classroom environment, emphasizing the comprehensive diversity of information sources. Through the four parts of reading, listening, speaking and writing, the test comprehensively evaluates the candidates’ academic English application ability, and helps them successfully complete overseas study and further study.

Accepted by more than 12,000 universities and other institutions in over 160 countries, and preferred worldwide, the TOEFL iBT test is the world’s premier English-language test for study, work and immigration. For example, the immigration department issue residence and work visas based on their applicants’ TOEFL iBT® score; medical and certification bodies issue professional qualifications based on their practitioners’ TOEFL iBT® score. In addition, more and more English learners self-assess their progress in English based on their TOEFL iBT® scores.
