Currently, there are 24 full-time teachers in the Department of Japanese, including 4 professors (with 1 recipient of Special Government Allowances of the State Council), 15 associate professors, and 3 Japanese foreign teachers. Among them, more than two thirds gained their PhD degrees in prominent Japanese universities, and all of the teachers have experience studying or researching in Japan. Currently various academic projects of different levels have been approved, involving 8 projects supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, 8 social science projects supported by Ministry of Education, 12 projects supported by provincial Social Science Fund of China.Over 30 monographs and translated works have been published, together with nearly 100 textbooks. In terms of academic achievements, 5 research articles have been published in the SSCI (Social Science Citation Index), and around 20 in CSSCI (China Social Science Citation Index). In the past five years, the Department of Japanese has gained 1 National Award for Teaching Achievements, 6 Provincial Award for Teaching Achievements and nearly 30 teaching awards in competitions above the provincial level. The Department of Japanese is responsible for teaching Japanese-majors, Japanese intensive courses, college Japanese teaching, Japanese minor teaching and Japanese as second foreign language teaching. Among the courses, 8 of them are first-class courses at the provincial level.

Our Japanese undergraduate major was founded in 2001. In 2019, the Japanese major was classed as a first-class undergraduate major in Liaoning Province, and in 2022, it became a national first-class undergraduate major. At the Department of Japanese, students will be equipped with international vision, solid Japanese language proficiency, strong cross-cultural communication competence, specific economic and technological knowledge and basic scientific research ability, so that they can become high-level international versatile talents and adapt to national economic and social development. Our Japanese major has always been committed to being “student-oriented”, emphasizing the integration of science and art disciplines; By virtue of the disciplinary advantages of Japanese language, literature and area studies, we have created an undergraduate-postgraduate integrated training system which is an unique feature in Northeast Asia; With the geographical advantage and DUT’s communication platform with Japan, the Department of Japanese has cooperation with 29 prominent Japanese universities, on long-term and short-term overseas study, credit transfer, exchange students and communication on courses, etc. All of the students studying the Japanese major have online or offline access to international communication. Over half of the students study abroad at Japanese universities (e.g.,Osaka University,Nagoya University), and there is also cooperation and communication on courses with Osaka University andTohoku University. TheDepartment of Japanese has established long-term cooperative relationships on translation internship with a variety of institutions, including Intellectual Property Publishing House, Foreign Affairs Office of Dalian Municipal Government,China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Dalian Sub-council) and Japanese enterprises operated in Dalian. More than half the graduates from the Japanese major enter outstanding universities for further study domestically or abroad, such as The University of Tokyo, Waseda University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Foreign Studies University, etc. Other students turn to employment in translation, management, secretary, education, foreign affairs, business and trade, etc. in institutions like Dalian Municipal Government, Huawei, Baidu, SAP, Toyota, governments, public institutions, foreign IT enterprises, other enterprises, banks and financial companies.
