Development Zone Campus, DUT

The Foreign Language Education Center is located in the Development Zone Campus, DUT, and is comprised of the “English teaching and research office” and “Japanese teaching and research office”, with a “laboratory of foreign language education on engineering discipline” subdivision. Currently, there are 22 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 9 associate professors, 10 lecturers and 1 teaching assistant. And there is one director, one vice director and an assistant in the center.

Following the development of the Development Zone Campus and demands for talent training, the Center has formulated a mature “information+foreign languages” teaching pattern, which has made great contributions in the training of versatile and practical talents with international vision. Regarding scientific research, the Center mainly concentrates on the application of information technology in foreign language studies, such as big data and artificial intelligence.

English Teaching and Research Office

The English Teaching and Research Office was established in August, 2002, and is responsible for the English teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate (masters and doctors) students from three Schools on the Development Zone Campus.Withthe principle of cultivating people with moral integrity, supported by leaders of DUT and Development Zone Campus, efforts have been made by all teachers to explore college English teaching in the new era. For building first-class disciplines and training first-class talents, a cooperative team of “English+majors” has been established, with intensified and unique “English+information” curricula. At present, the English Teaching and Research Office has a National First-class CourseEnglish for IT Industry, Provincial First-class CoursesAcademic Paper Writing (Computer Science) andComprehensive English 3, and DUT First-class CourseEnglish Comprehensive Ability Promotion. With these efforts, English proficiency of students on the Development Zone Campus has improved. Students have got outstanding awards in competitions like the National English Competition for College Students, CCTV English Speaking & Talent Competition, National 5-min Speech Scientific Research Competition for College Students, National Academic Vocabulary Competition for College Students, UNIPUS Speech Competition, British Parliamentary Debate Competition, DUT Speech Competitions and DUT Debate Competitions. The English ability of our students has received favorable comments from employers and other parties.

There are now 10 full-time teachers at the English Teaching and Research Office, including a professor, 4 associate professors, 3 lecturers and 2 teaching assistants. After several years of development, we have createdan excellent teaching and research team with great passion and humanistic care: there is a Provincial Prominent Teacher; four teachers have achieved “DUT’s Teaching Quality: Honorable Award”; many teachers have gained “DUT’s Teaching Quality: Excellent & Good Award”; teachers from the English Teaching and Research Office have won the first and second-prizes at DUT’s Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Teaching Competition for Young Teachers. In addition, multiple national, provincial and DUT’s projects on teaching reform and scientific research have been approved.

Japanese Teaching and Research Office

Currently, there are 12 full-time teachers in the Japanese Teaching and Research Office, with one professor, 5 associate professors and 6 lecturers. Following a student-oriented teaching philosophy, we aim to equip students with a solid Japanese language foundation and communication skills. By implementing reform and innovation in our teaching methods, we have achieved effective teacher-student interaction and interaction among students in and out of class, online and offline.

The Japanese Teaching and Research Office has made fruitful achievements in teaching and scientific research. Teachers once gained the Teaching Achievement Award: winning First Prize both at Liaoning Provincial level and at the University level. “Comprehensive Japanese” and “Japanese Listening and Speaking” have been rated as DUT’s excellent courses. Concerning scientific research, several national, provincial and ministry programs have been approved and supported by National Social Science Fund of China, Humanities and Social Science Fund of Ministry of Education, or National Natural Science Foundation of China (General Program). A variety of monographs, books and dictionaries have been published collectively. Teachers have attended multiple international academic conferences , with a number of research articles published.
