The Russian major was established in 2013. By committing to cultivating people with moral integrity, the Department of Russian aims to train professional talents with “high moral qualities, a strong sense of responsibility, wide knowledge scope, outstanding ability, proficient comprehensive competence and international vision”. By virtue of DUT’s advantage in science and engineering disciplines, the Department of Russian accentuates its strength in teaching Russian translation of technology based on multiple disciplines: science, engineering, economics, management, arts, law, philosophy, etc., in an effort to coordinate comprehensively in the construction of a “Russian combined with science and engineering disciplines” training pattern. On the other hand, according to national demand, the Department of Russian actively participates in the national strategy to further internationalization and elevate soft power by laying solid humanity literacy in students. Furthermore, considering DUT’s development in area studies and demand for applied foreign language talents, the Department of Russian has added “diplomacy on technology and culture” training, and inherited the tradition of technology Russian. Moreover, the Department of Russian has concrete cooperation with universities in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, with academic communication and people exchanges.

Currently, there are 7 teachers in the Department of Russian. Among them, there is one professor, and 3 associate professors; 6 supervisors of master’s degree; 4 doctor degree holders; In addition, the Department of Russian also employs Russian teachers with doctor’s degree and senior title.

Main curriculum: Basic Russian, Advanced Russian, Russian Grammar, Viewing, Listening and Speaking of Russian, Russian Reading, Russian Writing, Workshops of Russian Translation and Interpreting, Translation Practice of Technology in Russian, Translation Practice of Business in Russian, Writing Supervision on Russian Thesis, History of Russian Literature, A General Introduction to Russia, An Introduction to Russian Linguistics, Rhetoric Device Practice of Russian, Russian Speech Training, Area Studies on Russia, Cultural Diplomacy and Sino-Russia Relationship, etc.

International communication and cooperation programs

The Department of Russian has signed international cooperative agreements with Bauman Moscow State Technical University,Belarusian State University and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, respectively. Moreover, it has also signed international funding agreements onfellowship programs withMoscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI),Institute of the State Administration (ISA), Tomsk Polytechnic University, Pacific National University, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Far Eastern University of Railway Transport and Ural Federal University.

International communication activities

Since 2015, the Department of Russian has organized international summer camps with Bauman Moscow State Technical University andMoscow School of Social and Economic Sciences. Hundreds of students participated in the activities of online/offline communication with Belarusian State University and Petrozavodsk State University.

With the Russian World Foundation, Sino-Belarus International Culture Exchange Center and Foreign Language Education Practice Bases, the Department of Russian provides practice opportunities for students, such as “Dalian Forum” and “China-Belarus Education Year”. By training talents through practice, it will achieve an integration of science and education among disciplines. In this way, knowledge scope can be further expanded through practice, together with theoretical teaching.

Directions after graduation: bank management, maritime management, promotion management, education and research institutions, foreign trade enterprises and institutions functioning abroad.

The Russian major has been entitled with the right to confer bachelor’s degree and master’s degree.
